Domestic tourists have been disgruntled by the temporary closure of all Durban beaches, which has sunk their aspirations for a gorgeous coastal escape.
The displeased tourists conveyed their concerns and urged the local officials to take immediate corrective action, particularly in light of the upcoming festive season, when beach activities are generally in peak condition.
In addition to these concerns, local Durban surfer Timothy Gauws expressed his fears, emphasising the potential health hazards posed by the contaminated water. While the presence of sharks has long been a concern, Gauws’ principal concern is the potential contamination of the seas.
“It’s not just the sharks; the presence of E. coli can also pose a threat. However, we’ve always had a respectful relationship with the sharks. Despite the notice, we’ll continue to surf. We’ve just arrived, and we’re about to jump in. Our primary concern right now is the water quality. I’m not sure if the river mouth is open, but I sincerely hope we don’t fall ill,” Gauws remarked.
Durban beaches are an appealing getaway in KwaZulu-Natal due to the sea in the province which remains with constantly warm temperatures all year.
The warning by the municipality of Ethekwini mentioned the presence of opaque waterways filled with debris, including logs and other hazardous objects, as a result of the most recent series of heavy rains.
Many, regardless of the closure are hopefully that officials will tend to the urgency matter pertaining the beaches, that all is resolved and the coast carries on its normalities after being cleared of the concerns.
