A 60-year-old woman was taken into custody by the Hawks at OR Tambo International Airport for carrying marijuana valued at R400,000.

 

The Hawks claimed to have received information pertaining to the arrest ,on Sunday about a possible drug mule who was preparing to board a plane at the airport.

 

Her bags were seized at the boarding gate, and the woman was tracked down and discovered at the smoking area within OR Tambo Airport.

 

“The identified suspect had already checked in when the team arrived. The passenger was located in the smoking lounge while her luggage was intercepted at the boarding gate. Upon opening the luggage, eight blocks weighing 1kg each of compressed dagga were found between her clothes. The team confiscated the suspect’s cellphone for further investigation”,said Katlego Mogale.

 

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, according to Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale.
