The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has celebrated a resounding success in its mission to engage and register young voters, as the number of newly registered voters far exceeds initial targets.
Dr Tumelontle Thiba, representative of the IEC, expressed delight and gratitude, acknowledging the positive response from young citizens and the collaborative efforts of various political parties in driving this remarkable outcome.
“What we’re extremely happy about is that we targeted 20,000 new voters and we were planning to register those new voters.
“However, we are pleased to announce that we actually got much more than we expected so we are happy because we know that young citizens have also responded positively to the call made by the IEC and particularly the different political parties.” She said.
“We’re also very grateful to the IEC staff for the great job they’re doing.” She added.
“We are extremely happy with the response we have received. What we’re particularly pleased about is that we targeted 20,000 new voters, but we have received much more than anticipated,” shared Dr Thiba of the IEC.
The IEC also expressed deep gratitude to the political parties for their engagement in promoting voter registration and fostering an environment of active civic participation.
