In a dramatic display of frustration and urgency, residents of Mpumalanga have staged a mass protest, blocking the R573 Moloto road in anticipation of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to the region.

The road, situated east of Pretoria, is a route that Ramaphosa is expected to take as he travels to the Kingdom Houses of amaNdebele today.
The visit is part of the African National Congress (ANC)’s series of public engagements commemorating the party’s 112th birthday.

Mpumalanga residents have erected barricades using burning tires and have parked a truck carrying alcohol to block the way.

Residents are complaining of lack of service delivery in Mpumalanga, claiming that municipal councillors have shown little to no initiative in addressing their needs and improving their living conditions.
