South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa has officially announced that the national and provincial elections in South Africa will be held on May 29, 2024.

The announcement came after much anticipation, as it has long been expected.

 

In a statement, President Ramaphosa highlighted the importance of the upcoming elections, which will coincide with South Africa’s celebration of 30 years of freedom and democracy.

“The 2024 elections coincide with South Africa’s celebration of 30 years of freedom and democracy.

“Therefore, President Ramaposa calls on all eligible voters to fully participate in this important and historic milestone of our democratic calendar.” Reads the statement.

 

He has also urged all South Africans to exercise their democratic right to vote and encouraged political campaigners to conduct their activities peacefully and in full compliance with the law.

“Beyond the fulfilment of our constitutional obligation, these upcoming elections are also a celebration of our democratic journey and a determination of the future that we all desire.

“I call on all South To exercise their democratic right to vote and for those who will be campaigning to do so peacefully, within the full observance of the law.” President Ramaposa said.

 

The announcement of the election date has set the stage for a period of intense political campaigning across the country as political parties and candidates vie for support from the electorate.
