President Cyril Ramaphosa has made the decision to suspend Deputy Minister of Small Business Development, Dipuo Peters, following sanctions that were imposed by Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members Interests.

The committee found that Peters had violated the Code of Ethical Conduct during her tenure as Minister of Transport.

Peters has been suspended for one term as a result of the committee’s findings. This decision comes after the Western Cape High Court dismissed her urgent application to have her suspension from Parliament lifted in January.

The complaint against Peters was filed by the social justice group Unit Behind, alleging that she had failed to appoint a Group Chief Executive Officer at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa), despite the completion of a recruitment process.
