The Electoral Court has ruled against the African National Congress’ (ANC) request to de-register the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, stating that it lacks jurisdiction over the matter.
The judgment was delivered this yesterday in Johannesburg, with implications for the upcoming national elections on May 29.

The ANC argued that the registration of the MK party was unlawful and sought the intervention of the IEC to de-register the party.

In its ruling, the court determined that the ANC’s attempt to bypass the prescribed process outlined in the Electoral Commission Act was incorrect.

The court has declared that the MK party will remain eligible to participate in the 2024 national elections, scheduled to take place on May 29.
