The Border Management Authority (BMA) is hosting its inaugural pass-out parade for Junior Border Guards at the SAPS training college in Pretoria West.
The event marks a step towards government’s efforts to address the issue of illegal immigration at the country’s numerous ports of entry.
A total of 40 Junior Border Guards will be officially assigned the responsibility of apprehending and deporting illegal migrants at all ports of entry.
Speaking at the pass-out parade, Home Affairs Deputy Minister, Njabulo Nzuza emphasized the importance of deploying these Junior Border Guards to vulnerable areas with a higher risk of illegal immigration.
“We have deployed them to vulnerable segments where there is higher risk, so that we can get maximum value.
“For instance, about 100 of them will be sent to Beitbridge Border Post which is very notorious where we get a lot of troubles. So we are sending them out today and they have been training for about 7 months, and their training includes physical training, how to carry out paperwork when it comes to court and filling documents.
The training also equiped them with the ability to detect false documents and all those things that are at risk in the border environment.” Added Nzuza.
