The Democratic Alliance (DA) has reported that its members were attacked while putting up election campaign posters in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria.

According to the party’s board member, Katlego Makgaleng, one of the DA members was injured after falling during the attack.

Makgaleng stated that the party has opened a case with the Atteridgeville police station regarding the incident.

“Political leaders must take a firm stance against violence and political intolerance. They must discourage their members from engaging in violent behaviour and any other unacceptable political intolerance. We will make sure that these people are brought to book and justice must be served at all times.” Said Makgaleng.

The attack on the DA members comes in the midst of political tensions ahead of the general elections scheduled for later this year.
