South Africa’s opposition party, Patriotic Alliance (PA) has expressed optimism that it will secure over 20 seats in South Africa’s parliament in this year’s national elections.
PA leader Gayton McKenzie told supporters during a campaign stop in Kimberley that the party expects to become “kingmakers” in key provinces like Gauteng and the Northern Cape.
McKenzie stated that the party is aiming to win outrightly in the Western Cape.
“We expect to get around 25 seats in parliament in these elections. We expect to be the king makers in Gauteng and Northern Cape,” McKenzie said.
“We are the only party that says God must come back in our lives. Children must be taught about God at school. We are the only party that says we are going to mass deport all foreigners, we are going to bring the death penalty back.” He added.
The PA has been making steady gains in recent years, winning a ward in the Sol Plaatje Municipality last year that was previously an ANC stronghold.
