On Thursday, police intend to destroy drugs valued at R800 million. Among the prohibited narcotics are heroin, cocaine, mandrax, and dangerous substances.

Throughout the nation, the drugs have been found in a number of crime prevention initiatives.

The police will be burning five thousand kilograms of drugs at an undisclosed location near Johannesburg.

According to the police, this is the third such operation carried out in this fiscal year.

Athlenda Mathe, the national police spokesman, announced that the decision was made to allow the media to cover the event for the inaugural occasion.

“This, I think, is an opportunity for the nation to see what the police do with these drugs that have been collected throughout these operations, so every year this is what we do, three or four times a year, once cases have been finalised”, Athlenda Mathe remarked.

A large portion of the drugs, according to Mathe, had been found in the harbours of Durban and Cape Town.
