Former President, Thabo Mbeki has made calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza to pave way for peaceful negotiations that will end the ongoing escalation.

Mbeki made these sentiments while having discussions with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He said a two-state solution is the only way to achieve long-term peace between the two parties.

The two leaders agreed that a ceasefire is necessary, and negotiations are the only way to find a lasting solution.

During the meeting,  Mbeki also discussed his work to find peace in Sudan.

He met with civil society and Gen Burhan to try and find a solution to the conflict.

Mbeki said the military groups in Sudan must end the shooting and find a peaceful way to resolve their conflict.
