Prominent health expert Dr. Kgosi Letlape has announced his departure from the African National Congress (ANC), South Africa’s ruling political party.
In a resignation letter addressed to his branch secretary on March 1, Letlape stated that he was leaving the ANC immediately.
Dr. Letlape, an ophthalmologist and respected healthcare leader, has held several positions in the medical field.
He previously served as the President of the Health Professions Council of South Africa and played a significant role in founding the Africa Medical Association and also served as the chairman of the South African Medical Association.
Dr. Letlape has also been vocal about the issue of newly qualified doctors struggling to find employment in the public healthcare sector.
Last month, Dr Letlape publicly criticized the government’s approach to the National Health Insurance (NHI), expressing concerns that it could potentially lead to the misconduct of funds.
