The Independent Electoral Commission has appealed to political parties to practice good communication with the voters and the nation at large.

The chairperson of the electoral commission, Mosotho Moepya, has called on all political parties and their supporters to exercise restraint and responsibility in their communication with voters leading up to the upcoming elections next month.

Speaking at a multi-sectoral dialogue on misinformation during the election period, held in Sandton, Johannesburg, Moepya emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process through collaborative efforts with stakeholders.

“Our aim is to safeguard the integrity of our electoral processes and uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness.” Said Moepya.

“However, our success in combating misinformation, disinformation, and mal-information relies not only on the actions of institutions but also on the cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly those who are contesting in these elections.” He added.

The elections are set to be held in May.
