The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema met with traditional leaders in Moletji, outside Polokwane, as part of the party’s final push ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Malema visited the Moletji Moshate, the seat of the local traditional authority, where he urged Kgoši Kgabo Moloto III and other community leaders to support the EFF in the polls.
“I was reminding them of what they already know – their suffering without water, electricity, flush toilets, and proper roads. The struggle of their children in schools.” He said.
Malema has also accused the ruling party, African National Congress (ANC) government of neglecting the Moletji community, saying they had been “locked inside their houses” and promised support that never materialized.
“Instead of giving them food parcels, it gave them one million graves.” Malema said, in reference to high COVID-19 deaths in the area.
Malema has urged residents to vote for the EFF if they want real change in their community.
The EFF leader also addressed last week’s violent clashes between his party’s supporters and ANC members in the nearby Juju Valley informal settlement.
Malema condemned the violence, saying the EFF should not have reacted to provocation from “anarchists.”
He blamed the Polokwane mayor, who he said took out a firearm during the confrontation.
